| Climate: Bosnia-Herzegovina has a Mediterranean climate of
hot, dry summers and cool, humid winters. Temperature extremes range from a high of 29°C
(84°F) to a low of -4°C (25°F).....Bosnia-Herzegovina is one of the most mountainous of
the Balkan countries with a small area of plains just inland of the neighboring Croatian
coast. The nation opens to the sea only at a small point near the city of Neum. While
lower temperatures and moderate snow will be found in the higher elevations, valleys and
plains are far more given to rainfall in winter months. Like much of the region,
Bosnia-Herzegovina is subject to irritating and lengthy spells of heavy winds. |
| Visa: All visitors to Bosnia-Herzegovina must
carry a valid passport. Citizens of Canada, the United States, and the EU are not required
to obtain a separate travel visa. All other visitors should obtain a visa in advance for
the price of DM60 (US$35) from a Bosnian embassy or consulate. All applicants must show
evidence of a round-trip ticket, a valid passport and an "invitation" (tour
companies can handle this for leisure or short-term business visitors). Those flying into
Sarajevo airport can obtain a visa at passport control for DM90 (US$55). Bring several
passport/visa photos as there are extra charges if you must have them done at the airport.
Long-term business visitors should obtain multiple-entry visas which require proof of
legitimate business interests inside the nation. All visitors are required to register
with local police upon arrival; hotels will usually take care of this formality. Carry
copies of your passport to give to hotel clerks. Rarely, if ever, is it necessary to turn
over your actual passport. |
