| Climate: India's climate is extremely diverse. Parts of the
Ladakh region in Kashmir are among the coldest inhabited places on earth; the Himalaya
Mountain ranges are also very cold (and remain uninhabited) Monsoon winds bring rain and
replenish the rivers, lakes, and aquifers, thereby sustaining the agriculture. The main
south-west monsoon brings rain between May and September (with Bombay and the west coast
receiving rains in late May, and Delhi nearly a month later). The north-east monsoon
brings rain to the southern state of Tamil Nadu. Delhi sees its most comfortable climate
between October and March; May and June offer biting heat; and July to September sticky,
humid air........Temperatures in the northern plains and western deserts can reach 49°C
(120°F) between May and June, though their ground temperatures can be as low as -18°C
(0°F) winter. The lower peninsular India enjoys a moderate climate though it can get hot
between March and June |
